What that means for a Syracuse install
With about 70% of homes built in 2000 or later, many Syracuse installs are a short run from a modern panel to the garage. A load calculation still matters if you also have central AC, an electric range, a hot tub or a second EV.
- Many newer Syracuse homes have 200-amp service and the panel in or next to the garage, which often makes a 48-amp Tesla Wall Connector or similar charger a short, simple run.
- Three-car garages are common here. Decide which bay the EV will use before the electrician arrives, because mounting the charger in the right spot saves a costly cable reroute later.
- HOAs are common in newer Syracuse subdivisions. Exterior chargers or pedestals may need approval.
Across Davis County, 7,660 battery-electric vehicles were registered as of February 2026, and Syracuse accounts for about 9% of them.[2]
Charging costs on Rocky Mountain Power in Syracuse
Most Syracuse homes are Rocky Mountain Power customers. RMP's Schedule 1 time-of-use option treats only 6 to 10 p.m. on non-holiday weekdays as on-peak. Off-peak base energy is 6.6111¢ per kWh from October through May and 7.4705¢ from June through September, versus on-peak prices of 29.7498¢ and 33.6173¢.[3] Surcharges and taxes are extra, and the rate applies to your whole home, so it pays off when you can keep big loads out of the evening window.
RMP's Wattsmart Drive program, run through your car maker's app for supported brands, pays up to $100 in bill credits the first year and up to $50 each following year in exchange for letting RMP briefly manage charging.[4] There is no RMP rebate for the home charger itself in 2026.[5] If your bill isn't from Rocky Mountain Power, these programs won't apply.
Permits and inspection
The electrician pulls the electrical permit through Syracuse City's building process, and the work is inspected before it's energized. Utah adopted the 2023 National Electrical Code effective July 1, 2025, and most one- and two-family homes follow the electrical provisions of the International Residential Code as amended by Utah.[6][7] Current code requires GFCI protection for many EV outlets; your electrician will confirm exactly what your install needs.

Syracuse EV charger FAQ
My Syracuse home is only a few years old. Will I need a panel upgrade?
Less often than in older homes, but it still depends on what's on the panel (AC, electric range, hot tub). A load calculation settles it.
Should I get a 48-amp or 40-amp charger?
If the load calculation supports a 60-amp circuit, 48 amps charges fastest. On a tighter panel, 32 to 40 amps still refills most daily driving overnight.
Is there an EV charger rebate in Syracuse in 2026?
There's no utility rebate for a home charger right now. Rocky Mountain Power removed its residential charger rebate effective Jan. 1, 2026, and the federal 30C credit ended for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026. See our 2026 rebate guide for what's still available.
