What that means for a West Haven install
With about 76% of homes built in 2000 or later, many West Haven installs are a short run from a modern panel to the garage. A load calculation still matters if you also have central AC, an electric range, a hot tub or a second EV.
- Many West Haven homes were built recently enough that the builder left room in the panel. Some newer builds may even include a garage 240-volt receptacle or conduit, so check before you assume you need new wiring.
- Rapid growth means many HOAs. Garage installs rarely need approval; exterior units sometimes do.
- West Haven is Rocky Mountain Power territory, so the Schedule 1 time-of-use option and Wattsmart Drive are available to most homes.
Across Weber County, 3,378 battery-electric vehicles were registered as of February 2026, and West Haven accounts for about 10% of them.[2]
Charging costs on Rocky Mountain Power in West Haven
Most West Haven homes are Rocky Mountain Power customers. RMP's Schedule 1 time-of-use option treats only 6 to 10 p.m. on non-holiday weekdays as on-peak. Off-peak base energy is 6.6111¢ per kWh from October through May and 7.4705¢ from June through September, versus on-peak prices of 29.7498¢ and 33.6173¢.[3] Surcharges and taxes are extra, and the rate applies to your whole home, so it pays off when you can keep big loads out of the evening window.
RMP's Wattsmart Drive program, run through your car maker's app for supported brands, pays up to $100 in bill credits the first year and up to $50 each following year in exchange for letting RMP briefly manage charging.[4] There is no RMP rebate for the home charger itself in 2026.[5] If your bill isn't from Rocky Mountain Power, these programs won't apply.
Permits and inspection
The electrician pulls the electrical permit through West Haven City's building process, and the work is inspected before it's energized. Utah adopted the 2023 National Electrical Code effective July 1, 2025, and most one- and two-family homes follow the electrical provisions of the International Residential Code as amended by Utah.[6][7] Current code requires GFCI protection for many EV outlets; your electrician will confirm exactly what your install needs.

West Haven EV charger FAQ
My West Haven home came with a 240-volt outlet in the garage. Can I just plug in?
Possibly. Have an electrician confirm the circuit size, breaker and receptacle type match your charger first, because the receptacle and breaker must be rated for continuous EV charging.
How fast does a 48-amp charger add range?
It depends on the car, but 48-amp Level 2 charging typically adds roughly 30 to 45 miles of range per hour.
Is there an EV charger rebate in West Haven in 2026?
There's no utility rebate for a home charger right now. Rocky Mountain Power removed its residential charger rebate effective Jan. 1, 2026, and the federal 30C credit ended for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026. See our 2026 rebate guide for what's still available.
